The Pokey (dotted) Little Puppy

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I want to preface this entry with a pat on the back for myself. For Callan's first Halloween, I was able to limit myself to buying just one costume!!!!!!!!! Which is about 5 less than I wanted. I mean seriously---putting the world's cutest baby in a super cute Halloween costume, it's exponentially cute. It's just simple math. I compensated for my purchase urges by putting Callan in his costume as often as possible, and by dressing up Vegas. Here are a few pictures of Callan---a few from his 3 month photo shoot, and a few with his puppy, who is dressed as a baby (although his diapers are hard to see in these pics.) They make a rather dashing pair! It sounds like the weather on Friday may be nice enough to allow us to actually Treat or Treat! I've been practicing with Callan---I ring the doorbell and give myself candy. I imagine we'll have to renegotiate the split next year, but for now we've agreed on baby/mom= 0/100.

Hope everyone has a great Halloween!

Lots of love!

These are Bananas? B-A-N-A-N-A-S?

Our food journey continues! Callan is very much enjoying solid foods---he seems to prefer them to his previous all liquid diet. He loved applesauce, butternut squash, peaches and pears. Noticeably absent from the list is bananas. I tortured the poor guy with them for three days...thinking he might acquire a taste for them, but he just doesn't like them. Having a food nemesis myself (aurgh, how I hate you mayonnaise!) I can't help but wonder if I seeing a lifelong distaste or a passing disinterest...we'll try mixing them in w/a few other fruits to see if they become more tolerable. The good news about it was that I saw a volume miracle--two ounces of food in a small bowl can completely shellac a baby. He spit out so much fruit I think that he somehow multiplied it in his mouth. I wasn't able to capture the banana rejection on video, but in other fruit related news, here is Callan displaying his talent for raspberry blowing.

Hair today, gone tomorrow

Our boy is ever changing! Along with his tremendous growth, he also has a lot of folicular changes. Most of his 'baby' hair has fallen out and had gradually been replaced by our 'big boy' hair. The last hold out appears to be his 'mohawk' which is quite a shape changer. My personal fav is when it styles itself into a little curl Whohawk ala Whos (as in the Whos from Whoville).

What's up, Cuz?

Callan got a special treat on Friday--dinner with his cousins!!! We met Eric's folks, sister Gwynne and his nephews and youngest niece for pizza on Friday night. It was a perfect place---food, a little bit of noise and lots of entertainment. Grandpa gave Ryan, Luke and Rachael each a ziploc bag full of quarters and turned them loose in the retro arcade. Callan decided not to show off his killer PacMan skills and sat and people watched instead. He was so delighted to see that some of the kids from the restaurant followed us home! And thrilled beyond belief to see one of them follow him to his room! Little Miss Rachael was quite a hit---he couldn't take his eyes off of her. Rachael helped us with our bedtime routine and Callan wasn't a bit sleepy as long as she was around for entertainment. It was very sweet.

Inch by Inch

Callan was four months old on October 12! We celebrated the day with a blow-out shopping trip! We went shopping with my folks and my sister, and during our trip Callan had a blow-out diaper. It required a new outfit for him, and had I better packed the diaper bag, I could have used a change of clothes myself---lesson learned. Now that is a 'mother moment' not thinking a thing about finishing your shopping while you have a little bit of baby poop on your shirt and only a baby wipe to clean it up. If you carry the baby with just the right posture, no one is the wiser!

I absolutely cannot believe how fast the last four months have gone! Truly a blink of an eye. I feel like he gets bigger every day, and the pediatrician confirmed that last week! Callan is just over 27" tall and weighs about 17 lbs! He may have my eyes, but that is his dad's height and metabolism. (lucky boys!) At our appointment we got some very exciting news---we were given the go ahead for solid foods!!!! Eric's sister Gwynne stopped by just in time to witness our first spoon experience and act as photog for us. Callan wasn't nearly as interested as Vegas was! We ended up with more cereal on us than in us, but we have made progress in the last few days! Practice, practice, practice!!! My mom helped me make baby food this weekend and Callan seems to enjoy apple sauce---up next, butternut squash!

The Great Pumpkin Patch Pain

Actually, 'and' may be a more appropriate separator than 'or.' I know I have fallen behind in my posts...so here come a few to get us all caught up!

FIRST two weeks ago (Oct.12) Eric and I decided to celebrate the wonderful fall weather by taking Callan to a pumpkin patch. In theory, a fabulous idea, no? In practice, a pretty terrible one. The weather was beautiful--the pumpkin patch---not so much. We went to a smaller pumpkin patch instead of the most popular one. I can't remember if that is how the group of adventuring business men got off track in Deliverance...but it we probably should have just surveyed the 'patch' from the car and called it a day. First clue...large wooden structure which looked like a great climbing thing for kids was roped off w/yellow crime scene tape that said DANGER--BURIED ELECTRICAL LINE. Huh. Second clue, the first animal we took Callan to visit was a sweet little calf who had a terrible eye infection. At this point, I had both hands in the diaper bag digging for the Purell. Third clue, warning sign to pet animals at own risk---next to three little 'petting' areas. Seriously, this place was a wreck. But it was swarming with kids (and flies.) and I think Callan had a great time watching them all run around. It was definitely the most kids he has seen at any one time---I think he was pretty jealous of their freedom while he stayed strapped into the Dad-pack. Thinking I couldn't stand to miss a great photo opp of our sweet little pumpkin with a little pumpkin, Eric and I started to look for a place to take a few pictures. Low and behold, we found a great little place complete w/pumpkins, hay bales...the works. I was in charge of the camera and Eric was positioning Callan. Here are the two pictures in order...please note, photo one contains parental arm supporting baby. Photo two contains pumpkin supporting baby.
If there was a photo three it would be of me crying because Callan tipped over and scratched his face on the hay bale. I felt TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Callan recovered in about 30 seconds, I think I was scared permanently. I decided that over protective is definitely winning out in favor of under protective. Please ignore the bubble wrap that Callan will be wearing for the next 25 years. I'm sure it isn't as uncomfortable as it looks.

Love,

Jos

So Much to Say!

Callan was talking our ears off last night! He wanted to talk about the debate, what 'economic crisis' means, and when we thought he might be able to start eating cereal--you know, the big things. Here are a few of his thoughts on current events.

All in the Family

I think I can safely speak for Callan (and Eric) when I say what a fun weekend we had!!! Lots of family time and lots of new 'firsts!'

Callan loved getting to see Ethan and Liza and meeting his "cousin" Baxter. Baxter is about 5 months old and as cute as can be---Callan was the first baby that Baxter has met, and she was so sweet with him. Giving him lots of smells and tons of gentle kisses...I think both Callan and Baxter were equally curious about each other. Baxter is the first non-Vegas puppy that Callan has gotten to meet. I felt like you could kind of see him process...hmm. I've seen someone do those same things before--the licking, the smelling, the tail wagging....you look a little different than that guy...I wonder if you two know each other? Either that or maybe he was thinking, oh boy, here we go again!!!!

I think Eth was surprised at how big Callan has gotten. Heck, I'm surprised at how big Callan has gotten!!!! Callan was particularly fond of Liza's finger---on both Friday and Saturday he grabbed her by the pointer and wouldn't let go. Though literally he was wrapped around her finger, I'm not so sure it wasn't figuratively the other way around.

On Saturday we went out to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and take in one of the last Farmer's Markets of the season. It was a great morning! Uncle Grant bought us breakfast at the Upstream and while we all were sitting outside Callan got to see his first fire truck and got a wave from one of the firemen. He was happy to be outside and was loving the people watching (he was not alone on that front)...we had to cover his eyes while he witnessed his first act of parking-spot-stealing rage and then saw his first bird (and not the kind with feathers). It was a fun and eventful morning! Callan was so tired he fell right asleep on our way home, and knowing how badly he needed a nap I wanted him to keep sleeping, so we drove until he woke up....almost two hours later. Had I known how sleepy he was, we could have driven to Hastings to visit my Grandma! He definitely needed the rest as we had another big night of company with Eric's parents and his sister Gwynne coming over for dinner. We wrapped up the weekend w/dinner at my parents to say good-bye to the New Yorkers. Grant and Johanna were there and it is always fun to see them--they are both so busy--I never know how they have so much energy! Pretty impressive!

Not only is Callan growing so much, he is learning so much! Mostly through his sense of taste---everything he can get a hold of goes into his mouth! It won't be long and we are going to have to get a little more serious about baby proofing around here. My mom said that he was grabbing his toes this morning, and sure enough he showed me exactly how this evening. Won't be long until those make it to his mouth too! And, my Mom also backed up a claim Eric and I made this weekend---Callan waves!!!! If you call to him from across the room he will wave at you---not an open/close hand wave but a whole arm wave. Then again, he is moving all the time, so perhaps it is just repeated coincidence, but I prefer to imagine on the side of amazing advancement/potential genius.

Jos

They say it's your birthday...

Well, it's not our birthday too...but we have had lots of birthdays to celebrate since our last post. (Sorry I'm a bit belated--but you can see we've been celebrating!)

So, before our Callan news--Happy belated birthdays to Stephanie and Christine! And Happy Birthday to my Dad! Callan bought his first Grandparent's card...exciting stuff!

Since last we met, our most note able milestone is a mark of independence---holding our own bottle!!!! We have also been very busy working on our leg strength. Callan kicks at lightning speed (so fast the camera can't catch him--see his blur!) and when you are holding him he loves to "stand." I also think we have had a bit of a growth spurt....suddenly our size 6 months aren't nearly as roomy as they were a week ago!

Callan attended his first dinner party at our friends Jenny & Jerry's! (It was Callan's favorite--BYOB!) We had beautiful weather, delicious food and great company--lots of fun!

Last week Callan had his new longest car ride ever! Callan's Aunt Gwynne and I took him to Lincoln for a photo session with Aunt Beth. We (me) had so much fun! Callan's primary goal of the shoot was eating....so between glugs Beth was able to take pictures and Gwynne and I rattled, squeaked and babbled to try and coax a smile out of him. Teamwork!

We also had Gwynne, Christine and Stephanie over to celebrate the girls' birthday, he was calm enough to let everyone hold him for a minute or two. He was so tired from the photo shoot and the birthday party that he went to bed early. Just in time for us to watch The Office (oh, how I have missed it!) what a little angel!

Today I went home for lunch to celebrate my Dad's birthday. What a treat to get to see my baby boy and my parents in the middle of the day! It made it hard to come back to work!

This weekend we are looking forward to a visit from Uncle Ethan, Aunt Liza and puppy-cousin Baxter!
Love,

Jos

P.S. Speaking of celebrations---our love and congratulations to Amanda on passing her boards and becoming a licensed Aesthetician! Hooray!!!

When Animals Attack (or Our First Jog)

It was bound to happen. Living in the wiles of suburbia you will eventually encounter one of nature's misplaced beasts. Last night on our walk, an attempt was made on our lives. We were attacked by a vicious 9" garter snake. It came out of no where, slithering into the street from the golf course. It was between my foot and the stroller wheel when I finally saw it. I shrieked and ran!!!! When I finally felt that we were out of danger I stopped to see Callan smiling away in his stroller--either he was amused by my antics or he really likes jogging. For repeatability sake I guess we have to hope for the former! Vegas, who LOVES to hunt animals that could be kept as pets like bunnies and birds; didn't even sniff it. Animals so sweet they are in every cartoon ever drawn--those he likes to eat. Scary snakes he just strolls right on by. Who trained him?!

Obviously, I hate snakes. But as I was pushing Callan to safety (home) that is when fear really hit me. I realized that if we have a similar encounter next year, I might have to stop and let Callan look at the snake. And fast forward two years he may even want to touch it or pick it up!!!!!!!! I will have to swallow the heeby jeebies and mom-up, I guess! I think I might have to seek reptilian counseling. (and add a package of protective gloves to our diaper bag)

Enough with my drama---this is supposed to be about Callan! He is very glad that the weather is being more cooperative. He loves to go outside! Eric likes to take him out in his "backpack" every evening. If he is feeling a little fussy that settles him right down! (And Callan likes it too! :)

Our other excitement was a trip to Target! Callan hasn't been to Target except to run in for the essentials, but this week he went with me for the full two hour ordeal. He was so agreeable! He helped me pick out his diapers and then he took a very nice nap, waking up just in time to charm the checkout gal. What a guy!

When I can force tummy time on him, he's doing a great job of lifting his shoulders off the ground. He has only rolled onto his side, not completely over yet, but I think it has more to do with lack of practice time than with capabilities. I have a feeling we'll be seeing that soon! Here's some photographic proof and a few others just for fun.....

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

XOXO!

If this gym is a rockin' ...

Other titles considered:

1. Ringmaster
2. Mr. Thumbkin
3. Fan-scination Street

Last week we honed our skills from fist sucking to thumb sucking! And we are definitely showing a preference for our right hand instead of our left (or Righty and Lefty as Grandma Char likes to say).

Callan is more and more interested in his toys--even showing like and noticeable disinterest depending on the timing and the item. He loves a light-up talking butterfly that his cousin Rachael picked out for him --here's Aunt Angie entertaining him with it. And he LOVES ceiling fans---they mesmerize him! He watches ours and just smiles away at it. (Go figure. I hate that fan and have wanted to take it down since we moved here. Guess it will stay for a while longer.) He has also been enjoying some rather delicious and fun rings combined with his baby gym--which brings us to our clip of the week---our baby gym workout! Also--thanks to my mom for telling me that my videos do actually have sound! I guess that's what I get for turning the volume off on my computer so as not to wake Callan! Whoops!

Callan has been smiling and cooing a lot---I have a feeling we are just a few weeks away from our first giggle. His 'talking' has been getting steadily louder--I think he occasionally scares himself with his volume. It certainly surprises both Eric and I since we are both such quite voiced individuals. (sheesh!)

While he still isn't a fan of traditional tummy time, he has really been enjoying laying across my lap for a short little nap here and there. It's pretty funny to see him zonk out, arms and feet hanging, like reverse hammock.

I have begun a terrible habit of living vicariously through my son...and I don't see an end in sight! I have discovered that shopping for someone who is outgrowing their clothes (for good reason!!!) and needs new things with every change in weather is really rather delightful! You can construct a whole wardrobe without ever setting foot in the dressing room. He is also too young to complain about the things I like and his dad won't try--like sweaters! I shall enjoy it while it lasts!

What in the Wide World of Sports?

OK. The facts: I've lived in Nebraska my entire life. I've never liked watching sports ( or playing them). And I've never really felt the need o fake my fandom...until now. Last weekend we went on a family outing to Husker Hounds so that Callan would be properly attired for the game. Eric got a new Huskers shirt too, so I felt a pang of left-outedness and I caved...purchasing my first piece of Husker apparel. It only took Callan three months and me thirty-one years. Go figure. Not the first first he has inspired me to and certainly not the last! I should also mention that Eric believes it is no mere coincidence that it was both Callan's first Husker game and Bo Pellini's. Possibly we are getting a little ahead of ourselves...

We had a great Labor Day weekend--lots of family time! Here are a few pictures from our festivities. I feel so lucky to be able to share Callan with our family---it is a beautiful thing to see this little man be so loved and celebrated by everyone we love. Lucky us!!!

In addition to our family gatherings, Callan also got to spend a day with my friend Amanda. We had so much fun! Callan was generous enough to take an afternoon nap long enough that I could enjoy the benefits of Amanda's training as an esthetician and get a facial! It was heaven!
Tomorrow night my parents are going to spend the evening with Callan while Eric and I go out on a date! A dinner eaten sitting down using two hands will be hard to get used to, but I think it will come back to me!

The Feat of Feet or Just Kickin' It

Last week the hands...this week their partners, the feet. We've expanded our kicking from the mobile to other toys. Our "Clip of the Week" is Callan trying out the baby version of Dance Dance Revolution...he's a natural!

Our biggest and best news of the week was from the Cardiologist. We learned that Callan's murmur is still present, his ductis is still not completely closed, but that it is very, very small and should close on its own by the time Callan is six months old. If for some reason it does not close it should not in any way effect his development, physical activity or health---phew!!!! The Dr. told me that if I left with any reason to worry about Callan's heart then he had not been clear enough. So I was able to officially cross that off the To-Worry list. One down, nine million seven hundred and six to go. ; ) And, since nothing says "thank goodness we have a healthy heart" like bacon, we went out to breakfast with my parents to celebrate! (guess who dressed him!)

Our runner up for best news is, drum roll...........................................................................EIGHT & A HALF HOURS OF SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last night Callan slept from 10p until 6:30a. Holy cow do I hope that is the beginning of a new pattern and not just a fluke!!!! Next time it happens I will worry less (one more off the list!) and try to enjoy/participate more. I woke up at three and then spent most of the rest of the morning checking on Callan. Here's hoping I get another chance soon!

Callan is just growing so much, so quickly! As of last Friday he weighed 14.9 lbs and is officially wearing six month clothes. It is really amazing to realize that every day that goes by he is the smallest he'll ever be...every inch and ounce is one closer to laughing, sitting, talking---walking. I love watching how he changes and learns, and it reminds me to enjoy every second. Even the ones in the middle of the night. I'm sure it won't seem like long until he is keeping me up all night because he has missed his curfew.... I better enjoy the simple reasons like hunger and wet diapers while we have them!

We are looking forward to a great Labor Day weekend with lots of company. Aunt Angela and Uncle Joey, Great Grandma Gladys and my dear friend Amanda! Good thing Callan is getting lots of rest so he can be ready for all of the playing!

Here are a few other pictures from our week....

Callan trying out his new Bumbo (thank you Gerry!) while Vegas looks on. And one of my mom and Callan having a little conversation.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday!

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SMITY!!!!!

Haha SUCKER!

Look at us--our first video!!!! Yesterday, my mom reported that Callan spent most of the day working on getting his right thumb into his mouth. While this was obviously exhausting work, he got quite a bit of practice in and is now very proud of his latest accomplishment---fist sucking. I'm not sure if this skill will be honed into thumb sucking or not, time will tell. I found it pretty entertaining to watch him try this (and my mom did too!!!) so I thought we'd try a little video...if there were sound you could here the sweet little suck suck suck he is doing. He is pretty enamored with this...last night I had to hold his hand just to see a smile without a fist in it.

In addition to finding his fist on a consistent basis, Callan has been working on a lot of new things. He is showing a lot more interest in his surroundings. He will follow people's movements across a room and is starting to enjoy his toys a little more; holding his rattles (see pic) and looking at pictures in his books. His favorite toy right now is the mobile--he loves to watch it and listen to the music...and according to Grandma Char, he also enjoys kicking it when you hold him near it. Of course we do not encourage such behavior!!! ; )

Since our last post I have "officially" returned to work and Callan has been spending his days with my mom. While I miss him like crazy, Callan loves my mom and I can tell he enjoys being with her. And Grandma Char thinks he is pretty special, too! Vegas is working on adjusting to the idea that she is not coming over just to see him...he has been experimenting with some attention seeking behaviors...such as borrowing Callan's bottle. While this is an improvement from diaper ingestion....it is still pretty irritating! I don't know if he thinks the bottle is the reason Callan is being held and cuddled and therefore if he has the bottle he'll get the same treatment, or if he knows it is food of some kind and just can't resist. I suppose the third possibility is he just wants to make trouble--but that seems so unlikely!!!!! ; )

I was talking to my brother Grant this week and he was telling me all the fifty things he did this past weekend and then asked me what I did and I said "besides hanging out with Callan, I went to Target!" At the time it was legitimately the only other accomplishment I could think of besides enjoying my time with Callan, but I felt super lame to throw Target out like it was a place to go for entertainment/socialization/recreation! I might find a grocery store with a cooler name so it sounds a little more adventurous. Or maybe I will take to lying...

In actuality, we did have lots of fun last weekend because we had visits from both sets of grandparents! Callan was in such a great mood last Friday when my folks were here....he smiled almost all night long. He was such a little prince my mom, dad and I would all three go to change him just so we didn't miss out on his smiling and cooing. Such a fun day must have worn him out---he wasn't quite as happy on Saturday for Roger and Elaine's visit...he was much more interested in eating than he was in visiting. Here's a picture of Eric's dad (the Cubs fan!) and Callan in his Cubs outfit (courtesy of Aunt Angie and Uncle Joe). After looking at this picture and the one of Eric and Callan--I think our son might be a bit of a chameleon...looking a little bit like whoever is holding him!

This week we are looking forward to visits from my friend Monica who will be visiting us from Kansas City, and Sarah who will be visiting us from Connecticut. We also have our Cardiology appt. on Friday....wish us luck!

Happy Birthday to us!

Callan is celebrating his 2 month birthday today!!!! We celebrated his birthday the only way we know how---with shots. Not quite the way we used to do it...there is still the element of physical pain (but more instantaneous) but this version comes with much more emotional pain (at least for me). During our check-up our pediatrician graciously answered my LONG list of questions/concerns, and we learned that we have grown two inches taller and gained almost 4 pounds!!!! Callan is getting so big!!! And he is really starting to get social! He is cooing and jabbering away! (He said "Hi" at my mom and dad's this weekend. I swear! We have witnesses!!!) He smiles often and is starting to grasp toys and rattles. He can see quite a bit further and can track our movements from across the room. It is really amazing how much he has grown and changed in the last 8 weeks. The time has gone by so quickly! TOO quickly! (here's a picture of Callan from this weekend versus one from his first day...amazing!) We have had a fabulous summer! We've gotten to see and spend lots of time with our families, and friends and introduce Callan to all kinds of new things and people. We are very lucky!

Callan's two month birthday also means that I have to go back to work tomorrow...and while I am lucky to be going back to a great job, I will really, really miss spending all my time with my baby boy! However, it is a tremendous comfort to know that Callan will not be missing me, since he will be spending his days with Grandma Char! And, as Eric reminded me, I am not very good at camping and would probably not fare well living out of our car if I chose not to go back to work. He's so funny it is painful sometimes. ; )

Speaking of Eric and work...Eric bought his first items of clothing for Callan! He ordered Callan a set of "uniforms." (Eric has a work uniform=khakis and polos, and a home uniform = shorts and Tshirt) So, like father like son, Eric found this onesies at his company's store and thought that Callan could use a few. They say "Daddy's Little Apprentice." Considering the running joke in Eric's family is that he has been working since he was two...the onesies were a hit at his family party a few weeks ago. And I guess maybe it is time for Callan to get to work, too!

We did get a bit of concerning news today. Our Dr. heard Callan's heart murmur again. So to determine if it is truly the same problem that hadn't resolved itself as we thought it had, or if it is something new, or (our third and clearly favorite possibility) something was wrong with the Pediatrician's stethoscope and it is nothing; we will be going to the cardiologist sometime next week.

One final note for today....Vegas has become a very good big brother. He got a special treat last night---a nearly empty peanut butter jar. Here's a picture of his struggle to get his tongue all the way to the bottom.

A clean baby is a happy baby...

most of the time. We love bath time, however, we do not enjoy getting out of the tub. Note the before and after shots here. The funniest thing about these pictures is what you don't see--Callan's audience! Seven adults watching one baby take his bath. Oh to be loved!!!

And the world smiles with us!

LOOK what we have here! These little smiles are abundant in the morning and scarce in the evening. (Go figure--my new boss is a morning person.) However few or many, they are endlessly entertaining to me!

Communication

Callan has added a fourth hunger cue--hand to mouth! So now we have 1. He's awake. 2. The baby bird face. 3. Hand to mouth and occasional hand sucking and 4. CRYING! (I have a feeling that there is a fifth universal sign, but luckily he doesn't have enough dexterity to give me that one, yet.)
We're getting better at this so usually we can fill his request by the time we reach stage 2....but sometimes Mom is just not fast enough. Here's a little picture of his new sign language.

It's Tricky...

Callan's Aunt Beth came to visit us a few weeks ago and took his 1 month pictures for us. We (the adults) had a great time--the pics turned out fabulously! Callan didn't mind the photography, as long as there was meal time between takes. It did prove a little more tricky to get Callan to look at the camera instead of out the window. Here's one of my favorite pictures w/Callan in a bib from Uncle Ethan and Aunt Liza.

P.S. Bonus points for those connecting the post title and the bib! ; )
P.P.S. Double bonus points for anyone who can help me find a black nursing bra. Seriously.

An Overnight Visit

OK, this is a really belated post, but it was a milestone sooo here it is anyway!!!

Exactly one week after arriving home, we had quite an exciting evening...
We were getting Callan ready to go to his first party, when the windstorm hit. We lost power for about 15 hours. I decided that I wasn't rugged enough to be able to care for Callan w/out electricity. Something about changing a diaper while holding a flash light under you chin just didn't work for me. So he and I packed up and headed out to spend the night at my parents house. Since it was already late in the evening (10p ish) we didn't have enough light at home to get the Pack'n Play loaded up, so I left w/a portable swing hoping that would work for the night. Once we got there and my parents helped us settle in, I couldn't stand the way Callan was sitting in the swing so I decided that he should sleep in his car seat instead. Once I got him nestled in there, I spent the night worrying that his chin might be resting on his chest and obstructing an air way. So I spent most of the time worrying and occasionally flicking on my flashlight (in place of a nightlight) to make sure all was well. Callan slept like a champ...in fact until two nights ago I believe that was his longest stretch of sleep on record--nearly 4 hours (and I spent it awake and watching him. good plan) . What I learned from that experience is that Callan will be fine, and can pretty much make himself comfortable wherever he might be...it's me I have to worry about!
